Writing With  Passion

In the world of music, passion, and collaboration, the members of NSAI, the National Songwriters Association International, come together with a shared goal: to create songs that touch hearts and change lives. For this assignment, I chose to attend the first MTSU NSAI cowriting event. As a member, this was exciting since we haven’t had many events due to COVID-19. Throughout this event, I spoke with two NSAI officers. In the course of the interviews, these students shared the importance of songwriting and their appreciation for it. While writing songs may seem easy, the struggles a songwriter may face are also discussed.

Audio Story

Audio Story Script [PKG] [NAT SOUND: GUITAR: 05]  [SOT] “My name is Samuel Baldwin. I’m a audio production major. I am the NSAI Vice President” [SOT] “My name is Aleya Fyffe. I am a commercial songwriting major. They were in need of some assistance one semester. From that point on, I was able to become president.  [SOT] “I think songwriting is not only important but is the most important.” [SOT] “I’ve always had a passion for songwriting. I was always drawn to the words.” [SOT] “Tonight is the first initial co-writing session of NSAI” [SOT] “I think if you have a really important message to convey, then it can definitely change lives.” [SOT] “We are having a majority of our members come in and work together to co-write songs.” [SOT] “I’d say the most difficult part about writing songs is constantly worrying about if other people will like the song.” [SOT] “We’re sending them each in individual groups to not only learn what it’s like to co-write in a group and co-write with other people, but to kind of get to know more people at school.” [SOT] “For someone who is just starting off songwriting, I would say write every day. Take everything with a grain of salt and stay true to yourself. Songwriting really does come from the soul. A lot of the times, the best hits have come from being the most authentic.” [NAT SOUND: GUITAR: 02]
